Our Story

Our story and inspiration behind Crazy Goat Coffee, begins with a legend. Once upon a time, a long time a goat, (we’re talking around 800AD) the story of the discovery of coffee begins…

This is the story of Kaldi, an Ethiopian goat-herder (cue melodic yodelling, as you wish) who one day notices his goats going crazy for a certain type of berry from a certain type of tree. So wide-awake the goats became, it is said, that they just wouldn’t sleep at night. Excited and fascinated (and probably pretty tired from wired goats), Kaldi went straight to the Abbot at his local Monastery. Together they made a drink with the berries, only to find that it kept them more alert throughout long sessions of prayer.

News of the drink’s qualities soon spread to Medina and Mecca, and eventually to Cairo, Damascus, Baghdad and Constantinople. By the 15th century, coffee was being grown in the Yemeni district of Arabia and by the 16th century it was known in Persia, Egypt, Syria, and Turkey. By the 17th century, coffee had made its way to Europe. And then not too long after this, of course, it was down your local High Street.

And so, a millennia or so later, Crazy Goat Coffee was born. Inspired by the legend of Kaldi and his jumping goats; and fuelled by the passion for that very special bean.

Our Vision & Mission

We’re disruptive by our very nature. What does that mean? It really just means we always like to do things differently, and stay ahead of the pack so we’re always bang on for the latest coffee tastes and trends. Trailblazers, tastemakers, that sort of thing. It definitely doesn’t mean we’ll charge into your garden and eat your washing.
We want to become the No1 provider of specialist coffee to offices and bars in London, before spreading our wings across the UK, and then the world. (Cue scary human-like Goat laugh).

Embracing emerging coffee trends – Cold brew & CBD

We’re currently in the process of developing our very own cold brew coffee, served through cool nitro brew taps. These are the perfect addition to any office, cafe bar or restaurant that wants to offer something special to their staff and clients.
Latest research says that nitro coffee in particular helps boost the mind and attention span at work and is massive in Silicon Valley, don’t you know. We’re also developing our CBD oil range, to provide different grades of oil to complement our range.

Our packaging

It’s not just what’s in the bag. We’re very proud to be one of few coffee providers to have specially pioneered, fully biodegradable bags that break down within 90 days.
Naturally, when it comes to cups, lids and other products we use and supply, we’re also committed to using the most environmentally friendly options possible.

Our places

If you’d like to join us in person, come and say hello! We currently own and operate three of our own coffee bars delivering a delicious and healthy (or suitably naughty) food and drinks range. We also operate a number of in-house coffee bars for our clients. We’re not ashamed to say we’re a little obsessed with providing a positive experience at every one of our outlets, which is why we always go the extra mile.
All our shops are dog friendly and our owners are total and utter dog lovers. You can often find our mascot and office dog Ted, the Pudelpointer, hanging out in our shops on the weekend. Join us and let us satisfy mind, tummy, and spirit.

Our People

We’re a bunch of loveable coffee maniacs – aficionados, lovers, buffs, connoisseurs – many of whom have spent their whole careers in coffee

Dan Capel

Dan is our head honcho. Growing up, With two role models, his father – a builder and his uncle – a great salesman, Dan left school at 15 and started work in the building trade.
Quickly discovering he loved talking with customers, at 17 he embarked on a career in sales, before setting up his first business at the tender age of 24, selling office products and shortly after, a successful FM company called Oracle. It was then in 2013, when Dan met Georgie, who inspired him to start a coffee company, and today the DC Group is still going strong.

Georgina Barulis

With a long and successful career in sales, predominantly in the catering and vending sector, Georgie held directorships at a number of companies, before deciding to join forces with DC in 2013. They figured with Dan’s knowledge of the office market and her expertise in coffee and hospitality, that there was a recipe for fabulous collaboration.  Now in her MD role, Georgie heads up our sales & the retail division. She’s a mother of two, owner of one crazy dog named Rupert, and an inspiration to all that know her. She’s the ultimate multitasker, and luckily manages to squeeze in some much needed yoga sessions to keep her focussed.

Say hello to Joe. Our (suitably named) head of coffee is an absolute coffee nut, and trains all of our people to the highest standard of coffee-making – including smiley faces and even swans on each coffee and speciality drinks. Joe trained and worked alongside some of the world’s best baristas and coffee professionals and started out as head barista in our first coffee shop in Croxley.  In 2020, Crazy Goat will be proudly entering Joe, and one of our other baristas into the UK Barista championships, don’t you know. We feel that with our coffee and extensive training, our guys are more than capable of competing with the world’s best.

Tina Wakeling

It’s no understatement to say that Tina is the heart and soul of our coffee shops. Suffice to say she’s a massive foodie with a passion for healthy food and making those around her happy.
Her background in floristry has given her an extremely good eye for detail, as she’s helped design and craft all our menus and stands proud at the forefront of the retail and events side of the business and on the senior leadership team.

The Rest of Our Team

Our account managers and in house accounts team are also massive coffee lovers and trained to the highest level of customer service; with our engineers boasting over 50 years’ combined experience of traditional and bean-to-cup coffee machines.
What’s more, as part of our overall training process, all our teams get to spend time in the Roastery and out on the road with quality control to understand exactly what it is everyone is doing within the business.
So from bean to barista and everything in between, we really know our stuff. We’ve already made tremendous, innovative strides forward with our product and service over the years, and yes, we’re crazy hungry for more.
